It’s not easy to fight the herpes virus. The first outbreak of a herpes infection is usually accompanied by a high fever that is followed by blisters, mouth sores, and enlarged lymph nodes. The virus then reaches the nervous system and can become active again because of certain triggers. These triggers include stress, certain kind of foods, surgeries, and hormonal changes in the body as well as a weak immune system. Here are a few home remedies that can help prevent herpes.

Ice packs
Ice helps relieve the pain and discomfort that herpes tend to cause. Take few ice cubes and wrap it in a cloth. Place it on the affected area for about ten minutes. Repeat the procedure for a few days. It will heal the blisters and give you relief from the pain.

Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar helps in decreasing the severity of a herpes outbreak, thanks to its anti-fungal properties. Dab it with a cotton ball on the areas that have been affected, at least three or four times a day, for around two to three days. For best results, apply it as soon as you experience the first itching sensation. This solution might sting a little. If you aren’t keen on applying the solution directly to the affected area, you can mix it in water and drink it instead.

Hydrogen peroxide
Soak a cotton ball in a mild solution of hydrogen peroxide, and apply it to the affected area. Leave it for a few minutes and repeat this process every few hours. If you have cold sores, you can add a spoon of the solution in some water and use it as a mouthwash.

Garlic
Garlic has natural anti-microbial properties. It is an anti-inflammatory agent and can be highly effective in reducing herpes. The easiest way is to add crushed garlic to your recipes or place a crushed clove of garlic on the affected area at least two to three times every day.

Herpes can be a highly irritating problem and is hard to cure at times. Therefore, it is advisable to visit a doctor if the condition aggravates.
