Know about the three common birth control options

There have been different birth control options that people have been using for years and as science advances, the options have become more safe, effective, and reliable. Depending on which birth control option is best for you and your partner, you can decide from the variety of options that are available out there. The three birth control options that are commonly used by most people are-

  • Birth control pills
Birth control pills are one of the most available birth control options and are very commonly used by people. Birth control pills are medicines that have hormones that help prevent pregnancy. There are a variety of brands that offer birth control pills, but it is always suggested to consult your doctor before consuming one. The pills stop your ovulation and hence, there is no egg around the sperm to fertilize. This is how birth control pills prevent pregnancy. Although pills are a great birth control option, they don’t prevent you from sexually transmitted infections.
  • Condoms
Condoms are one of the most accessible birth control options available. Condoms are not only easy to use, but they are easily available as well. Condoms not only prevent birth control, but they also provide protection against STDs. Condoms cover the penis during sex and hence, they stop the semen from getting into the vagina. This ensures that the sperms don’t meet an egg and, in turn, prevent birth control. Also, condoms prevent STDs by covering the penis, preventing the contact with vaginal fluids, and limiting the skin-to-skin contact that can spread sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Birth control implant
A birth control plant is also known as AKA Nexplanon. It is a tiny thin rod that is about the size of a matchstick. The implant prevents you from getting pregnant by releasing hormones into your body. It is one of the common birth control options suggested by the doctor that protects you from pregnancy for up to 4 years. It is not a permanent birth control option and whenever, you decide that you want to be pregnant or don’t want to have your implant anymore, your doctor can take it out for you. Once the birth control implant is removed, you can conceive whenever you want.
