Identifying and resolving common problems related to gas dryers

A large number of people these days are using gas dryers at their homes. The type of dryer range used at homes is generally less expensive to operate as compared to the electric ones.

How does a gas dryer function?
Gas dryers are not only energy-efficient but also heat up and dry clothes faster than electric dryers. After the clothes have been dried, these dryers use moisture sensors instead of running the entire cycle again to save power.

However, there are several reasons that can make a gas dryer dysfunctional which can be utterly frustrating and can lead to derailment of the day-to-day functioning of the household. Here we are discussing some of the ways to identify and resolve the two most common problems related to gas dryers.

No heat in the dryer
It is one of the most common problems with gas dryers. If you’re facing a similar issue, the first step to fix the dryer is a thorough assessment of the problem and checking the functioning of all the parts that contribute to the heating of the dryer such as gas, thermostat, heating element, igniter, gas control valve, radiant flame sensor, coils, and thermal fuse.

Dryer won’t start
A gas dryer that won’t start is one of the problems with owners left wondering how to fix the dryer. Some of the main problem areas leading to this could be:

  • Defective switch or no gas
Start by checking the gas switch as the dryer that won’t start when the door is closed. The reason could be the switch being defective or no gas.
  • Faulty thermal fuse
In most of the dryer brands, the thermal fuse is a kind of safety device which is used to prevent overheating of the dryer. In case the dryer isn’t working, check the fuse at once.
  • Constant noise coming from the dryer: This common problem can be efficiently resolved by checking the drum glides, idler pulley, or the lifter of the dryer. Any fault in these parts should be reported immediately.
  • Dryer taking too long to dry: If the dryer is taking too long to dry, irrespective of the make or model, the same should be fixed immediately by getting the most common elements like gas, coils, heating elements, and thermostats checked.
  • Dryer not shutting off: If you are struggling with this problem, get the same fixed by checking the functioning of the parts like door switches or timers that can lead to this issue.

If these solutions don’t help, make sure you take the help of a professional.
